Ephesians 2:1-10
2 And you
were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways
of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the
lower heavens,[a] the spirit now working in
the disobedient.[b] 3 We too all previously
lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of
our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the
others were also. 4 But
God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for
us,[c]5 made us alive with
the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by
grace!6 Together
with Christ Jesus He also raised us up and seated us in the heavens, 7 so that in the coming ages He
might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to
us in Christ Jesus. 8 For
you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it
is God’s gift— 9 not
from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are His creation, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should
walk in them.

Prayer for Spiritual Insight
15 This is
why, since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the
saints, 16 I never
stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,[a] would give you a
spirit[b] of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the perception
of your mind[c] may be enlightened so
you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the glorious
riches of His inheritance among the saints,19 and what
is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to
the working of His vast strength.
God’s Power in Christ
20 He
demonstrated this power in the Messiah by raising Him from the dead and seating
Him at His right hand in the heavens— 21 far above every ruler and
authority, power and dominion, and every title given,[d] not only in this age
but also in the one to come. 22 And He
put everything under His feet[e] and appointed Him as
head over everything for the church, 23 which is His body, the
fullness of the One who fills all things in every way.

Greeting
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s
will:
To the faithful saints in Christ Jesus at Ephesus.[a]2 Grace to you and peace from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
God’s
Rich Blessings
3 Praise the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual
blessing in the heavens. 4 For
He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and
blameless in His sight.[b] In love[c] 5 He predestined us to be
adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will, 6 to the praise of His
glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved.
7 We have redemption in Him through
His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of
His grace 8 that
He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 He made known to us the
mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure that He planned in Him 10 for the administration[d] of the days of fulfillment[e]—to bring everything together in
the Messiah, both things in heaven and things on earth in Him.
11 We have also received an inheritance[f] in Him, predestined according
to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the
decision of His will, 12 so
that we who had already put our hope in the Messiah might bring praise to
His glory.
13 When you heard the message
of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed in Him, you
were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. 14 He is the down payment of
our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession,[g] to the praise of His
glory.

Summary of 2 Peter
2 Peter 1:1-11 (Ryan)
Peter is talking to people who believe in Christ Jesus. These verses are about our belief in Jesus
not being just about our words but also our actions. Peter challenges us believers to grow in
their faith.
2 Peter 1:12-21
(Matthew)
Peter wants the church to remember everything he had taught
them about Jesus Christ, salvation, and the blessings of salvation because he knew
he was going to die and come back to save the earth. Peter also wanted to remind the church that what
he taught them was not made up stories because he was an eye witness to
Christ.
2 Peter 2:1-10 (Carson)
Peter first explains that false teachers follow the path of
the unrighteous, and are of this world.
They will deny God the Father, and will bring destruction on themselves. They ignore the one who created them, so they
separate themselves from God. Peter
gives several examples of righteous people being saved from the ungodly. Angels, Noah, and Lot were all saved from
extremely ungodly people. God will save
his people.
2 Peter 2:11-22
(Patrick)
Peter is telling us to walk the path with God, and don’t go
the other way. He is talking about
Christians who are doing very horrible things.
We don’t want to be a pig going back to the mud after our bath, or a dog
that returns to its vomit. We need to be
Christians who follow Jesus and preach his word.
2 Peter 3:1-7 (Emma)
Peter is saying don’t be shocked when people mock you for
believing that Jesus is coming back by saying, ”Nobody has ever come back from
the dead, and nobody ever will.” What
they willfully ignore is that things don’t always happen the same way every
time. By God’s command dry land rose
above the earth’s water. God later used
earth’s water to destroy everyone but Noah’s family. Someday, after He returns, he will use fire
to destroy all those who have not put their faith in Him.
2 Peter 3:8-18 (Luke
and Selah)
The Lord has given us time to tell others about the good news
of Christ. The day will come when He
returned, but no one knows when that day will come. Make every effort to be found righteous in
front of the Lord. Follow the Bible and
repent of our sins. Grow is grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:14-18Holman
Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)Conclusion14 Therefore,
dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found at
peace with Him without spot or blemish. 15 Also,
regard the patience of our Lord as an opportunity for salvation, just as our
dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him.16 He
speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters
that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own
destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.17 Therefore,
dear friends, since you know this in advance, be on your guard, so that
you are not led away by the error of lawless people and fall from your own
stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day
of eternity. Amen.1. How can we be found at peace with Him
without spot or blemish? Carson
2. How can we avoid the people that
twist God’s word and how do we know that people are twisting God’s word? Ryan

Peter 3:8-13Holman
Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)8 Dear
friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a
thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord does not delay
His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not
wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.
10 But the
Day of the Lord will come like a thief;[a] on that day the heavens
will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and
the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.[b]11 Since all these things
are to be destroyed in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be
in holy conduct and godliness 12 as
you wait for and earnestly desire the coming[c] of the day of God. The
heavens will be on fire and be dissolved because of it, and the elements will
melt with the heat.13 But
based on His promise, we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where
righteousness will dwell.

2 Peter 3:1-7
The Day of the Lord3 Dear
friends, this is now the second letter I have written to you; in both
letters, I want to develop a genuine understanding with a reminder, 2 so that you can remember
the words previously spoken by the holy prophets and the command of our Lord
and Savior given through your apostles. 3 First, be aware of this: Scoffers will come in the
last days to scoff, living according to their own desires,4 saying, “Where is the
promise of His coming? Ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things
continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.” 5 They willfully ignore
this: Long ago the heavens and the earth were brought about from water and
through water by the word of God. 6 Through these waters the world of that time perished
when it was flooded. 7 But
by the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire,
being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
Questions
1. What is this genuine understanding, the command the Lord and Savior has given to us? Selah
2.
What is a scoffer? Brenna
3.
How do we know that Jesus is coming back? How do
other people make us doubt him? Emma
4.
The earth was once full of water, a water vapor
covered the whole earth, then God flooded the earth because of evil
people. God will come again with fire
from heaven. Judgment and destruction
will come to the ungodly. Why are we
thankful for his patience?
1. What is this genuine understanding, the command the Lord and Savior has given to us? Selah

2 Peter 2:11-22
11 however,
angels, who are greater in might and power, do not bring a slanderous charge
against them before the Lord.[a] 12 But these people, like
irrational animals—creatures of instinct born to be caught and destroyed—speak
blasphemies about things they don’t understand, and in their destruction they
too will be destroyed, 13 suffering harm
as the payment for unrighteousness. They consider it a pleasure to carouse in
the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, delighting in their deceptions[b] as they feast with you. 14 They have eyes full of adultery and are always looking for sin. They seduce
unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse! 15 They have gone astray by
abandoning the straight path and have
followed the path of Balaam, the son of
Bosor,[c] who loved the wages of unrighteousness 16 but received a rebuke for his
transgression: A donkey that could not talk spoke with a human voice and
restrained the prophet’s irrationality. 17 These people are springs
without water, mists driven by a whirlwind. The gloom of darkness has been
reserved for them. 18 For by
uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce,
with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped[d] from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, but
they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever
defeats them. 20 For if, having
escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, they are again entangled in
these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better
for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy
command delivered to them. 22 It has happened to them
according to the true proverb: A dog returns to
its own vomit,[e] and, “a sow, after washing itself, wallows in the
mud.”

Luke, Connor, and Matthew are up this week.
The Judgment of False Teachers
2 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their unrestrained ways, and the way of truth will be blasphemed because of them. 3 They will exploit you in their greed with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.
4 For if God didn’t spare the
angels who sinned but threw them down into Tartarus[a] and delivered them to be
kept in chains[b] of darkness until
judgment; 5 and
if He didn’t spare the ancient world, but protected Noah, a preacher of
righteousness, and seven others,[c] when He brought a flood on
the world of the ungodly; 6 and
if He reduced the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes and condemned them
to ruin,[d] making them an example to
those who were going to be ungodly;[e] 7 and if He rescued
righteous Lot, distressed by the unrestrained behavior of the immoral 8 (for as he lived among
them, that righteous man tormented himself day by day with the lawless deeds he
saw and heard)—9 then
the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to keep the
unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, 10 especially those who
follow the polluting desires of the flesh and despise authority.
Bold, arrogant people! They do not tremble when they blaspheme the
glorious ones;

12 Therefore I will always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you have. 13 I consider it right, as long as I am in this bodily tent,[a] to wake you up with a reminder, 14 knowing that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has also shown me. 15 And I will also make every effort that you may be able to recall these things at any time after my departure.[b]The Trustworthy Prophetic Word16 For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory:This is My beloved Son.[c] I take delight in Him![d]18 And we heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with Him on the holy mountain.19 So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. 1 Simeon[a] Peter, a
slave and an apostle of Jesus Christ:
To those who have obtained a faith of equal
privilege with ours[b] through
the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Growth in
the Faith3 His[c] divine
power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the
knowledge of Him who called us by[d] His
own glory and goodness. 4 By these He has given us
very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in
the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of
evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every
effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, 6 knowledge
with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, 7 godliness
with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For
if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being
useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 The
person who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten the
cleansing from his past sins. 10 Therefore,
brothers, make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because
if you do these things you will never stumble.11 For in
this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ will be richly supplied to you.

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)Conclusion8 Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. 9 Resist him and be firm in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.

12 I have written you this brief letter through Silvanus[e] (I know him to be a faithful
brother) to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God.

End-Time Ethics
7 Now the end of all things is near; therefore, be serious and disciplined for prayer. 8 Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.[a] 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaining. 10 Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others,as good managers of the varied grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, it should be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, it should be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
This week we will be praying for each other. It will be good!!!

1 Peter 4:1-6
TJ and Andrea re up this week
Following Christ
4 Therefore,
since Christ suffered[a] in the flesh,[b] equip[c] yourselves also with the
same resolve[d]—because the one who suffered in
the flesh has finished with sin[e]— 2 in order to live the
remaining time in the flesh, no longer for human desires,[f] but for God’s will. 3 For there has already
been enough time spent in doing what the pagans choose to do:[g] carrying on in
unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing,
and lawless idolatry. 4 So
they are surprised that you don’t plunge with them into the same flood[h] of wild living—and they
slander you. 5 They
will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the
dead. 6 For
this reason the gospel was also preached to those who are now dead, so

Food Bank
Riverview FCA helped out at the Food Bank this past weekend. It was a great opportunity to help local people in our community. A large food company made one of the largest donations in Food Bank history by providing hundreds of thousands of cans of tomato sauce. Our job was to place a label on every food can with ingredients and place them in a smaller container to be shipped throughout the community.

1 Peter 3:13-22
Jenna, Alyssa, and Mark are leading this week.
Undeserved Suffering
13 And who will harm[a] you if you are deeply committed to what is good?[b] 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be disturbed,[c] 15 but honor[d]the Messiah[e] as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason[f] for the hope that is in you. 16 However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear,[g][h] so that when you are accused,[i] those who denounce your Christian life[j] will be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will,[k] than for doing evil.
18 For Christ also suffered for sins once for all,[l]
the righteous for the unrighteous,[m]
that He might bring you[n] to God,
after being put to death in the fleshly realm[o]
but made alive in the spiritual realm.[p]

19 In that state[q] He also went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison[r] 20 who in the past were disobedient, when God patiently waited in the days of Noah while an ark was being prepared. In it a few—that is, eight people[s]—were saved through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the pledge[t] of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 22 Now that He has gone into heaven, He is at God’s right hand with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.

1 Peter 3:8-12
TJ is up this week
Do No Evil8 Now
finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love
believers,[a] and be compassionate and
humble,[b] 9 not paying back evil for
evil or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing, since
you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.10 For the one who
wants to love life and to see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit,11 and he must turn away from evil and do what is good. He must seek peace and pursue it,12 because the
eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their request. But the face of the Lord is against those who do what is evil.[c] and to see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit, 11 and he must
turn away from evil and do what is good. He must seek peace and pursue it, 12 because the
eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their request. But the face of the Lord is against
