Galatians 2:1-10

Galatians 2:1-10
Paul Accepted by the Apostles
2 Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. 2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain. 3 Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. 4 This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. 5 We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
6 As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message. 7 On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised,[a] just as Peter had been to the circumcised.[b] 8 For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles. 9 James, Cephas[c]and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. 10 All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.
  1. What was Paul’s message to the Jews and Gentiles?

  1. Gods salvation is for all people regardless of race, gender, nationality, wealth, social status, educational level, or anything else. Anyone can be forgiven by trusting in christ.

2. Why did James, Peter, and John give Paul and Barnabas their approval to work with the Gentiles?

  1. Because James, Peter, and John realized that God was using Paul to reach the Gentiles. Paul was a top Pharisee, a Jewish leader.  Most people would believe that Paul would speak to the Jews first, not the Gentiles. Paul the educated teaches the uneducated, Peter the uneducated speaks to the Jews, the educated.

3.  What was Paul’s message in chapter 2:10?

  1. Many gentiles were suffering from the effects of famine and were poor. Just like Paul gathered funds for the suffering Gentiles, we need to continue to remember the needs of the poor today. He not only came to feed the needy, but to save the needy.

4.   In today’s culture, what does the right hand of fellowship look like?

  1. The right hand of fellowship looks like a handshake or a brotherly hug.  They are giving approval to Paul to spread the Word of Christ.

Summary

In chapters 2 verses 1-10 its states, “that after 14 years he finally went back to Jerusalem with Barnabas and Timothy.” They went because they came with the response to the revelation towards the gospel. How God does not show favoritism. So paul is going to be preaching to the uncircumcised , just when peter preaching the circumcised. For God was not choosing one over the other but was at work with both of them. But James cephas and John give paul paul and Barnabas the fellowship when acknowledge the grace given to them and let them preach the gentiles but to aso remember the poor.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
I pray that everyone knows that god doesn’t show favoritism and he loves everyone equally.  Make sure everyone does great on their tests and they have a fun and safe weekend. I pray that we can be the lights on campus and as Paul said we should continue to remember the poor.  Thank you to Mr. Alfaro, Mrs. Drake, and Mr. Beaty for always helping FCA and making it grow every Friday.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Galatians Ch 1:11-24

Paul Defends His Apostleship
11 Now I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel preached by me is not based on human thought.[a] 12 For I did not receive it from a human source and I was not taught it, but it came by a revelation from Jesus Christ.
13 For you have heard about my former way of life in Judaism: I persecuted God’s church to an extreme degree and tried to destroy it.14 I advanced in Judaism beyond many contemporaries among my people, because I was extremely zealous for the traditions of my ancestors. 15 But when God, who from my birth set me apart and called me by His grace, was pleased 16 to reveal His Son in me, so that I could preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone.[b] 17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to those who had become apostles before me; instead I went to Arabia and came back to Damascus.
18 Then after three years I did go up to Jerusalem to get to know Cephas,[c] and I stayed with him 15 days. 19 But I didn’t see any of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother. 20 Now I am not lying in what I write to you. God is my witness.[d]
21 Afterward, I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia. 22 I remained personally unknown to the Judean churches in Christ; 23 they simply kept hearing: “He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they glorified God because of me.

Questions:

  1. What was the gospel (good news) that was revealed to Paul by Jesus Christ?

A: The good news was/is that God sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we could become part of his family and live forever by his grace, not by our good works.

2.                  What “former way of life” was Paul referring to in verses 13-14?

A: Paul’s former way of life was advancing in Jewish religion trying to earn eternal life by following the rules of his religion, Paul persecute Christians and tried to destroy Christian churches.

   3.   Though God did not reveal his son Jesus to Paul, until Paul was an adult, according to verse 15, when did God set Paul apart and call him by his grace?

A: God set Paul apart from his birth.

   4.    What was Paul’s way of life way of life after God revealed Jesus to him?

A: After Jesus was revealed to Paul he preached the good news to Gentiles(non-Jews) and eventually got to know the Jewish Christian leaders like Cephas/Peter and James.

   5. What was it about Paul’s testimony that caused the Judean churches to glorify God?
A: Hearing that the one who formerly persecuted christians was now preaching about Jesus.

Dear God,
Thank you for our leaders and Mr. Alfaro, Mrs. Drake, and Mr. Beaty. Help all the athletes do well and help everyone do good on their tests. Help us be lights on our campus and introduce others to you. Thank you for this day and for thank you for Mrs. Torosian letting us have FCA. Help us to glorify you in everything we do.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Summary

The bible is not based on human thought, but it is God speaking through apostles who wrote the bible. Paul used to persecute God’s church, but then God showed his light through Saul who then became Paul. Paul then began to preach among the Gentiles about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Good Word. Then Paul went to the Judean churches in Christ and kept saying “he who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith ha once tried to destroy.” The churches soon glorified God because of Paul who used to persecute Christians and God’s church.

Galatians Ch 1:1-10

Greeting1 Paul, an apostle—not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers who are with me:To the churches of Galatia.[a]3 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord[b] Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. 5 To whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.No Other Gospel6 I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from Him who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are troubling you and want to change the good news[c] about the Messiah. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you, a curse be on him![d] 9 As we have said before, I now say again: If anyone preaches to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him!10 For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.
Questions,
Q:What is important about Paul’s greeting?
A: He’s an apostle because God and Jesus Christ appointed him as an apostle not men. If men can appoint you men can fire you.  But Jesus and God appointed you, therefore his words have more value.
Q; Why does paul capitalize Him when he is writing.
A:God is way more important than other people and he is the king of everyone.
Q: What is Paul saying in verses 3 4 5.
A: Paul is restating the gospel and is telling everyone how big jesus is and since he sacrificed his life for us we owe him our lives.
Q: What do you think turned them away from the gospel.??///?///??
Q:What does paul mean by curse be on him.
A:Paul doesn’t mean a physical curse he means don’t cheat the gospel.
Q:Who is paul trying to please men or God.
A:God. He is trying to give back the grace he has received from Him.
 Summary,
Paul is writing this before he is sent to jail. He is writing this to the people of Galatia. He makes it clear that he is writing this for God and not men. He states this by saying,” Paul an apostle-not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead.” Paul talks about the gospel. He also wants us to teach other people about his gospel and to not modify it at all. For whoever modifies it shall have a curse on them. When Paul says he is a slave of Christ he means that he is devoting his life to God because his son Jesus died for us.

 Prayer,
Dear Lord Thank you for this wonderful week we have had. Thank you for all of the people that have come to FCA to enhance their knowledge of you. Please help us do our best in giving our lives to you, because you sent your only son to die on the cross to save us from our sins. Indeed, it is as important to learn how to give a blessing as it is to be willing to receive one.
