Galatians 3:19-26

Galatians 3:19-26 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
The Purpose of the Law
19 Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise was made would come. The law was put into effect through angels by means of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator is not for just one person, but God is one. 21 Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that was able to give life, then righteousness would certainly be by the law.  Stop! 22 But the Scripture has imprisoned everything under sin’s power,[a]so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 Before this faith came, we were confined under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed. 24 The law, then, was our guardian[b] until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. 25 But since that faith has come, we are s under a guardian, 26 for you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Questions
1. Q: What are transgressions?
A: Transgression is an act that that goes against a law.
2. Q: Who gave god’s promise to Abraham?
A: God gave it to Abraham by himself without mediators including angels or Mosses.
3. Q: What was the law?
A: The function of the law was to point people to Christ, not to provide for all time the way the people of God should live." The law is also to show people that
4. Q: What does the supervision of the law teach us?
A: The need for salvation and guidelines for living by trusting in the lord.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for showing us the law and covenant which allows us to understand that faith in
God is the only way to be saved. Lord please continue to show our faith in you delivers us so we are not beaten by past mistakes and sin. Keep reaching out to us to set us free as our grace gives us salvation. Continue to show us that our faith in you and hard work can help us be successful in our weekly tests and competitions. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Summary
In chapters 3 verses 19-26 it states a very important and thinkable question. Why then was the law given? It was given alongside the promise show people their sins. But the law was to last only until the coming or the child who was promised. God gave his law through the angels to moses, who was the mediator between God, and the people. Now a meditator is helpful if more than one party must reach an agreement. But God, who is one, did not use a meditator when he gave his promise to Abraham. Is there a conflict, then, between God’s law and God’s promises? Absolutely not! If the law could be give us a new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it. But the scriptures declare that we placed that we are all prisoners of sin, so we received God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ. Before the way of faith in Christ was available to us, we were placed under a guard by the law We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until the way of faith was revealed. The law was our guardian until christ came, it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian. For you are the children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:10-18

Galatians 3:10-18
Law and Promise
10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written: Everyone who does not continue doing everything written in the book of the law is cursed.[a] 11 Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live by faith.[b] 12 But the law is not based on faith; instead, the one who does these things will live by them.[c] 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, because it is written: Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed.[d] 14 The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit through faith.
15 Brothers, I’m using a human illustration.[e] No one sets aside or makes additions to even a human covenant[f] that has been ratified. 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say “and to seeds,” as though referring to many, but referring to one, and to your seed,[g] who is Christ. 17 And I say this: The law, which came 430 years later, does not revoke a covenant that was previously ratified by God[h] and cancel the promise. 18 For if the inheritance is from the law, it is no longer from the promise; but God granted it to Abraham through the promise.
Questions:

1.      In verse 10, who were the people “who rely on the works of the law”?

A: The people “ who rely on the works of the law” were people that thought that by obeying God’s commandments, they would get to go to heaven.

     2.    What curse is being referred to in verse 10?

A: The curse that is being referred to is in Genesis 3 when God sentenced Adam and Eve to die by kicking them out of the garden and cutting them off of the tree of life.  Also in Romans 6:23, “the wages of sin is death”.

     3. In Galatians 3:13, how has Christ redeemed us from the “curse of the law”?

A: Christ has redeemed us by living a sinless life and being crucified on a cross for our sins, not his own.

     4. In Galatians 3:14 what Blessings of Abraham is being referred to?

A: God promised Abraham that if he trusted him, God would bless him and his seed/offspring.

      5. In Galatians verse 16,chapter 3, who is the seed/offspring, that would receive God's blessing if Abraham trusted God?

A: God said if Abraham trusted him he would bless Abraham and his seed/offspring, Christ.

     6. In Galatians 3:17-18, What does Paul say about the law which God gave Moses 430 years after God promise to Abraham.

A: Paul says that the law does not cancel God’s promise to Abraham.  Despite the law, God’s promise remains for Abraham and for Christ (and therefore, for all who are in Christ.)

Summary:
In Galatians chapter 3 verses 10-18, Paul stresses that those who try to be right with God by obeying his commands (the law) are doomed.  No one has ever kept God’s law except Christ.  The only way to be right with God is to trust him, or in other words, live by faith.  God’s promise to Abraham 4,000 years ago still stands.  Because of Abraham’s faith, God blessed him and Christ (and therefore all who are in Christ... like us, if we have put our trust in him!)

Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for Mr.Alfaro, Mr.Beaty, and Mrs.Drake for giving up their Friday mornings to teach us about you. I pray that everyone in here could take something out of this today and that we can show it on campus. Help us be lights also. I pray that we will do well on our tests today and that we can have a fantastic Friday. I pray that we can get some other students to join FCA. I pray that the message today can sink in and that we can use it in our everyday lives.
And all God’s people said, Amen

Galatians 3:1-9

Justification through Faith
3 You foolish Galatians! Who has hypnotized you,[a] before whose eyes Jesus Christ was vividly portrayed[b] as crucified? 2 I only want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?[c] 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now going to be made complete by the flesh?[d] 4 Did you suffer so much for nothing—if in fact it was for nothing? 5 So then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law or by hearing with faith?[e]6 Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness,[f] 7 then understand that those who have faith are Abraham’s sons. 8 Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and told the good news ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you.[g] 9 So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.[h]

Questions
Q: What does Paul mean by saying who has hypnotized you?
A: Paul is trying to ask why are you betraying the true gospel when you should be listening to the one God has been preaching.
Q: What does Paul mean by,”after beginning with the spirit, are you going to be made completely by the flesh.”
A: Paul means you are either going to live by the flesh-which is sinful- or you are going to live by the spirit which is faithful. You can’t choose both or switch between them, you are either faithful or  not living righteously.
Q: If Paul asked you right now what the gospel is what would you say?
Q: Why does god choose abraham as an example of faith.
A: He believed that even though abraham’s wish was impossible he had faith all the way and god gave him a son.

Summary, Paul goes straight at it by telling the people of Galatia they are fools. He is getting there attention so he can explain what they have done wrong. He wants to know why they have been having problems with their faith. And tells them why would Jesus die on the cross just for nothing. Jesus had a purpose for dying on the cross and we need to thank him for that. Just know that Jesus had a purpose for all of us. But we need to first find it to fulfill it. Just as Abraham trusted God we need to have faith in him.

Prayer, Dear God, please keep everyone safe at the students vs. staff game, and I pray that if we are having personal problems you would touch our hearts and help us get through those tough times. Also I pray that we would all do good on our tests today. Thank you for president Lincoln and I ask that you help us honor him on Monday. Amen

Galatians 2:11-21

Galatians 2:11-21Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
Freedom from the Law
11 But when Cephas[a] came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he stood condemned.[b] 12 For he regularly ate with the Gentiles before certain men came from James. However, when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, because he feared those from the circumcision party. 13 Then the rest of the Jews joined his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas[c] in front of everyone, “If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile And not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews?”[d]
15 We who are Jews by birth and not “Gentile sinners” 16 know that no one is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ.[e]And we have believed in Christ Jesus so that we might be justified by faith in Christ[f] and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will[g] be justified. 17 But if we ourselves are also found to be “sinners” while seeking to be justified by Christ, is Christ then a promoter[h] of sin? Absolutely not! 18 If I rebuild the system[i] I tore down, I show myself to be a lawbreaker. 19 For through the law I have died to the law, so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ[j] 20 and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body,[k] I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing.
Questions:
  1. Why did Peter separate himself from the genitals?
A.                 Peter separated himself from the genitals because he feared those from circumcision party

     2. Why does Paul say,” if you who are a Jew like a gentile and not like a Jew”
A.                 Paul says this because no person is justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. We can’t act like chameleons and change our personality based on who we hang out with.

            3. What does Paul mean by when he says,” justified by faith in Christ “

A.                 Paul means that we know very well that we are not set right with God by rule keeping but only through personal faith in Jesus Christ.

            4. What does Paul mean by,” I have died to the law.”

A.                 Paul quit trying to follow the law to please God and he chose not to be a law man but Gods man

5. How can other people influence you to believe something wrong?
A.                 Peter ( Cephas ) and Barnabus were not trusting the gospel they were trusting human teaching.

                                                                        Summary

In chapter 2 verses 11:21 it talks about when the genitals arrived Cephas began to draw back and separate himself from the genitals because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group when Paul saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel. Paul said to Cephas, ” You are a Jew yet you live like a Gentile and not a Jew “  Paul says so we have to put are faith in Jesus Christ that we may be justified by faith. Paul also says he lives by faith the son of God who loved him and gave himself for him. Paul reminds us to not set aside the grace of God for if righteousness could be gained through the law, and Christ would have died for nothing.
