Galatians 6:11-18

Galatians 6:11-18New International Version (NIV)
Not Circumcision but the New Creation
11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!
12 Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh. 14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to[b] the Israel of God.
17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters. Amen.
Questions:

1. Why does Paul write large letters in his writing?

A= Paul wants to show how important and meaningful this letter is. He is showing that he wrote it in his handwriting, but God is speaking through Paul to tell him what to write in the Gospel. This message is so important that it need to be big and bold.

2. Why would religious people boast about you if they were to get you to act religiously?

A= People would boast about you because they would think people will be impressed if they can get other people to act how they are acting.

3.  What does it mean when Paul says, “I bear on my body scars for the cause of Jesus?”
A= It means that when he was a follower of Jesus, he got beaten up for being his follower.  Jesus warned him of this happening, but Paul still followed him.

4.Why does Paul boast about the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ?

A= Paul only boasts about the cross because it is the one thing worth boasting about. Even though Paul can boast about himself and all the amazing things he did he only boasted about the finished work that Jesus did on the cross. Jesus took the wrath of God that we deserved, so that we could have forgiveness and eternal life.

5. What does Paul mean by, “what matters instead is a new creation?”

A= Paul means that acting religiously or not doesn’t matter, what matters is whether a person’s heart has been changed through faith by Jesus Christ.

Summary
Paul is writing with big letters to show how much this passage means and says. This passage talks about how some people try to not be prosecuted for God and the cross of Christ. People that are circumcised don’t keep the law. But they want you to be circumcised so that they may boast about the flesh. We should never boast about anything other than the cross that saved us from going to hell. This letter from Paul tells us what we need to do and how we need to act.
